With over 15 years of both wet lab and bioinformatic experience in -omics based studies centered on human disease, Thomson Bioinformatics can provide both strategic planning, informatics processing and downstream analytics on a range of biological and clinical projects depending on your specific project needs. To date this work has spanned a range of fields including human health, cancer research, toxicology, embryonic development and molecular & cell biology; in a number of research and academic institutions within the UK and Europe. This work has been published in a number of high impact journals such as Nature, Elife, Science Immunology, Cancer Research, Nucleic Acids Research and Genome Biology (see "selected publications" section for more information.

Thomson Bioinformatics specialize in the analysis of next generation sequencing (NGS) data – particularly gene expression transcriptomics (RNA sequencing, Nanopore) and genomics (panel based, exome and whole genome based) with particular focus on cancer based projects. Projects outside these core areas may also be possible.

Based in Edinburgh, UK - Thomson Bioinformatics can provide global informatics solutions conforming to accepted academic and industry standards. Depending on your project needs assistance can be provided from the early stages of project planning all the way through to the generation of publication ready figures and can include:-

  • the planning/management of NGS experiments with contacts at local NGS facilities in Edinburgh,
  • upstream analysis such as genome mapping, quality control checks and pre-processing of data-sets,
  • downstream analytical processing of data sets in order to reveal the biology associated with your project,
  • assistance relating to data interpretation, the preparation of manuscripts for publication or grants applications for funding bodes.

We aim to provide a cost effective and flexible means to analyse your data in a timely manner. Costs are calculated on a "per project" basis and are highly competitive compared to competitors in the field. Contact us for more information regarding costs for your specific project.

Discuss and plan NGS based studies

Can provide expertise towards the planning of a range of transcriptomic, genomic or epigenetic based studies including arranging sequencing at cost effective local facilities.

Upstream analysis: Raw data processing

Raw sequencing reads can be mapped to the reference genome, QC, data normalization and processing carried out

Downstream analysis: interrogating processed data

Analytical processing of resulting or previously generated data-sets in order to understand the biology in the data

Publication ready data

Outputs of analysis can result in publication ready figures and dataframes.
